James A. McCoy Sr., 71, passed away at Chadron Community Hospital on June 17, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.

Jim was born April 23, 1937 in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Clifford and Edith (Evens) McCoy. He spent his younger years in Cheyenne and then later moved to Chugwater, Wyo., where he graduated from Chugwater High School.

Jim was a long member of the Wyoming Air National Guard for many years. He worked hard all of his life working at JC Penny’s in Cheyenne, was a brick layer, farmer and later became a truck driver in the Eaton, Greeley, Ft. Collins area.

In 1960 he married Helen Jessen after 20 years they later divorced. In those 20 years he had two beloved sons. He them married Connie West and they were together for 28 happy years. He also received a 12 year old daughter. Jim and Connie moved to Austin Texas in 1987 and then to Hay Springs in 1998 where he drove truck for West Plains Grain.

Jim’s greatest passions in life were his kids, grandkids, and the Broncos. There was nothing more important to him. He always needed to know what son was working where and what grandchild was playing what sport, if grandkids were not playing sports he needed to know what trouble they were giving their parents. He really got a laugh out of that one and he never missed a Bronco game.

He is survived by his wife: Connie of Hay Springs; brother: William (Karen) McCoy of Cheyenne Wyo.; sister: Bev Boyd of Portland Oregon; two sons: John (Marianne) of Greeley Colo., and James Jr. (Penny) McCoy of Greeley, Colo.; daughter: Shelli (Trevor) Cope of Hay Springs; five grandchildren: JC Jr. McCoy, Carol Ann (Andrew) Royval, Cameron McCoy, Brandon Cope and Breanne Cope, and great-grandchild: Michael Royval.

A memorial has been established for the national Cancer Society. Please sent any donations to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary; PO Box 443; Hay Springs, NE 69347.
