Hay Springs pharmacy to close
By Record staff Monday, November 17, 2008
Begining Dec. 1, the Hay Springs Pharmacy will no longer provide prescription services, and the entire business will close effective Dec. 31.
A news release Monday announced the closure, and said it comes about because pharmacist Debra Carlson, R. Ph. and her family are relocating.
Arrangements are being made with Petersen Drug in Chadron to provide pharmacy servics to residents of Pioneer Manor and Assisted Living, the release said.
The community’s drug store almost closed ten years ago, but the board of directors of Pioneer Manor and Chadron Community Hospital entered a joint venture agreement to keep pharmacy services available in Hay Springs. Carlson has been pharmacist and manager of the business for the past 10 years.
The boards of both Pioneer Manor and Chadron Community hospital have been unable to find another pharmacist to replace Carlson, and have concluded there is no way to keep the pharmacy open, according to the release.
The pharmacy will remain open as usual through November and continue to sell over the counter items through the end of December. Customers will need to make arrangements with Carlson to have their prescriptions transferred prior to the end of the year.
